About Whakawhiti Mentoring Services
Our Purpose
At Whakawhiti Mentoring Services Ltd, we provide individualised mentoring and support for rangatahi and their whānau. Our aim is to help young people develop practical skills, confidence, and positive habits that support their growth and future wellbeing. Life brings challenges, transitions, and uncertainty. At Whakawhiti Mentoring Services, we walk alongside young people as they navigate these ups and downs, offering consistent encouragement, guidance, and practical support along the way. Through supportive mentoring relationships, we help rangatahi build the confidence and resilience needed to move forward and approach the future with greater clarity and self-belief.
What "Whakawhiti" Means
The word “Whakawhiti” comes from Te Reo Māori and means to traverse or cross over. For us, this represents walking alongside young people as they move through different stages of life — supporting them as they develop the confidence, skills, and resilience needed to move forward. Our role is not to direct their path, but to support them as they discover their own strengths and direction.
About the People
Tim Blundell
- Director / Mentor
Kia ora, I'm Tim Blundell, Director and Mentor at Whakawhiti Mentoring Services. I believe every young person deserves the opportunity to build a positive future, and I’m passionate about supporting rangatahi as they develop the confidence and skills needed to move forward in life. I have recently completed a Master's degree in Psychology, which has further strengthened my understanding of human development, relational connection, and wellbeing. This academic knowledge complements my practical experience working with young people in mentoring and youth support roles.
My experience includes working with organisations such as:
- Oranga Tamariki - Youth Justice
- Youthline
- CanTeen Aotearoa
Through these roles, I've developed insight into the challenges many rangatahi face and the importance of consistent support, positive relationships, and practical guidance in helping young people build confidence and resilience. At Whakawhiti Mentoring Services, my focus is on walking alongside young people and their whānau, helping them navigate challenges and build a pathway toward a more positive future.
Important Information
